Access to Health Services
The government's role in rural areas should be to provide critical services that smaller populations may not have otherwise had access to. I'm not for excessive government meddling, but I think that they should be supporting all of our people, with equity. To me that means providing timely access to health care, mental health services, and substance abuse treatment centers.
Rural communities face certain barriers to accessing health care, and more needs to be done overcome them. Nobody in Wyoming should have to drive for two hours to get to the nearest hospital. Nobody should feel helpless because they have no options for professional treatment of mental health or substance abuse issues. When our rural communities suffer, everyone suffers.
I want to see posters that remind citizens that they always have access to mental health services, and that MedicAid will cover 100% of it. I want people to feel confident in the level of care they receive, and confident that they will always be able to receive care when they need it.
Promoting the Rural Economy and Infrastructure
Just as the government provides subsidies to promote business growth in cities, I want to make sure there is just as much emphasis on providing support for small businesses in rural communities. Once again, supporting all of our people, with equity. These communities certainly don't need as much financial support, but they deserve just as much consideration.
